Property/House name: | Ballyseedy Castle
Description: | Ballyseedy was a seat of the Blennerhassett family for many generations. Charles Blennerhassett was occupying it at the time of Griffith's Valuation when it was valued at £60. Lewis recorded that Sir Edward Denny was living there in 1837 but that it was a seat of the Blennerhassett family. In 1906 it was owned by Arthur Blennerhassett and valued at £65. The National Inventory of Architectural Heritage (Buildings of Ireland) report states that the house was built c.1760 but renovated and extended at least twice in the nineteenth century. The Irish Tourist Association survey in 1942 reported that the owner then was Miss Hilda Blennerhassett. It remained in the ownership of the Blennerhassett family until later in the twentieth century when it was sold and became Ballyseedy Castle Hotel. [www.ballyseedecastle.com].
