Description
William Johnson Harte was residing at Coolrus, county Limerick in the early 19th century. The Trinity College Alumni records two of his sons, Richard, born circa 1801 and Mahony, born 1806. The Ordnance Survey Name Book records Richard Hart of Coolrus, parish of Ballingarry, county Limerick, holding the 1,030 acre townland of Coolrus and the smaller townland of Durlas containing 172 acres. Coolrus, the estate of Richard Harte was advertised for sale in July 1865. The sale, which was adjourned due to insufficient bidding, was subject to an annuity of £400 "for the life of a lady aged 49 years"! . Lands at Gurteen, barony of Connello Upper belonging to William Henry Harte were advertised for sale in May 1852. This property was sold to William Littledale for £3000.
Additional lands at Carhuemore and Ballycullen were advertised for sale in January 1855. The 158 acres estate of Mahony and William Harte at Ballinacurra Wilson, barony of Pubblebrien, was advertised for sale in April 1856 and the lands of Ballinacurra Bowman in January 1860. In the 1870s Mrs Anne Harte of Cork owned 1,098 acres in county Limerick.

Coolrus House
(H2498)
The residence of Richard Harte circa 1840 and of James Lynch in the early 1850s who held the property and 186 acres from the Court of Chancery. The house has diminished in size by the publication of the 25-inch edition Ordnance Survey map in the 1890s and it is no longer extant.
